Simone Capecci: A Legacy of Passion and Winemaking in the Heart of Marche
“EVERY GESTURE IN THE VINEYARD AND IN THE CELLAR IS GUIDED BY THE RESPECT OF THE RAW MATERIAL. WE HAVE REVOLUTIONISED THE WORLD OF VINEMAKING BY COMBINING TRADITION AND MODERNITY. TECHNICAL INNOVATION HAS BEEN THE KEY TO MAINTAINING THE PURITY OF THESE WINES UNCHANGED”
In the sun-drenched hills of the Marche region, where the Adriatic Sea meets the countryside, lies the story of Simone Capecci—a family-run winery built on passion, tradition, and a deep love for the land. What began as simple farming generations ago has blossomed into a renowned name in Italian winemaking. We are in Ripatransone, in southern Marche, specifically in Piceno, near the border with Abruzzo. Simone Capecci, owner of the eponymous winery, brings a bold approach, making organic farming a core value. The winery officially started in 1974 when his father acquired the land. The first commercial bottle was released in 1988, featuring Rosso Piceno Superiore, designed to elevate the Sangiovese grape, which has always been present in the area.
From family roots to a visionary winery
The Capecci winery was founded in 1988 when Vincenzo Capecci decided to bottle wine that had been produced in bulk since the early 1900s. From 2000 onwards, Simone Capecci has been passionately managing the estate, cultivating and selling their wines. The San Savino vineyards are located in a beautiful valley in Ripatransone. While the current market demands more young and fresh white wines, the winery excels in producing robust yet fragrant reds from their clay-rich soils. The estate now has around 25 hectares of vineyards.
What makes their wines special? The winery benefits from an ideal wine-producing area with excellent exposure, rich soil, and 100% organic, manual harvesting. To ensure the highest quality, they’ve embraced modern techniques such as using concrete tanks for fermentation and reduction, which helps preserve the delicate aromas and prevent oxidation. By combining traditional methods with innovative techniques, Simone set out to craft wines that captured the essence of the local terroir. This innovative approach, combined with their commitment to authenticity, results in elegant, fresh wines with a distinctive identity that’s hard to replicate.
A future grounded in tradition
As the winery looks to the future, the Capecci family stays true to their mission: to produce wines that honour the past while embracing innovation. Every bottle of Simone Capecci wine is not just a product—it’s a story, deeply connected to the land and the family who has nurtured it for decades.
